Indigenous Marathon Project athletes conquer Boston

Tegan Pugram and Jamie Wunungmurra after finishing the 2012 Boston Marathon
Two Indigenous Australians have risen to the occasion and conquered the 2012 Boston Marathon.
Tegan Pigram from Derby WA and Jamie Wunungmurra from Yirrkala NT overcame a many hurdles to make their way through the tough 42.195 km course.
Despite testing conditions, with a temperature of 31 degrees at the start line, Tegan completed the course in 5 hours and 14 minutes, with Jamie coming in at 6 hours and 7 minutes.
For most, we rarely drive this distance, yet these two athletes turned what one day seemed impossible into a reality, proving to themselves and the rest of the nation that if they can run a marathon, they can achieve anything.
This is an incredible example of the str
ength, spirit and determination.
The road doesn’t end for the pair, who will now continue to work through elements of their Certificate III in Community Recreation.
