Credit Union boosts volunteer numbers for National Volunteers Week
Leading credit union Community CPS Australia is connecting Canberrans with worthy volunteering opportunities through their unique ‘Community Volunteers’ program in support of National Volunteers Week from 14th – 20th May 2012.
‘Community Volunteers’ is a national volunteering initiative, run by Community CPS Australia in partnership with Volunteering ACT, to promote and increase volunteerism by connecting potential volunteers with not-for-profit organisations and charities.
The program features a website where potential volunteers can access volunteering vacancies available, and an online register for participants to register as a Community Volunteer and be contacted when vacancies arise.
Community CPS Group senior manager ACT/NSW Chris Blight said National Volunteers Week was the perfect time to highlight the need for more volunteers, as many charities and not-for-profits would struggle to survive without them.
“Volunteers contribute immeasurably to the wellbeing of communities, and by bringing volunteers and volunteering opportunities together in one central hub, the ‘Community Volunteers’ program makes it easier for everyday Australians to join the army of 5.4 million volunteers supporting worthy causes every year,” said Mr Blight.
Sarah Foo, Volunteer Coordinator at Questacon, Australia’s National Science and Technology Centre, said the program was a useful and straight forward way for people across the country to find a rewarding volunteer position.
“Community CPS Australia have created an initiative where people can take that often difficult first step to find a cause that is meaningful to them,” said Sarah.
“Volunteers play an integral role at Questacon, interacting with visitors and encouraging a relationship between science and community. However, not a lot of people know there are volunteering positions at Questacon, so a program like ‘Community Volunteers’ is a great way to reach out to new people.”
Maureen Cane, CEO at Volunteering ACT, said the partnership between Community CPS and Volunteering ACT with the Community Volunteering Program is already delivering great benefits to the community in the Canberra region.
